Linda A
Riley
aka: Momma Angel

When cancer calls...things change. My lovely long red hair was gone and now I've gained 30 more pounds. Grrr.

January 2009...the long hair was cut off (over 14") and sent to Pantene's Beautiful Locks to make wigs for cancer patients. I cut it on Feb 17th 2008 and a week later was notified that I, myself, had breast cancer. So after the 2nd chemo when the hair began falling out, I called in reinforcements (my son) to shave it all off. Chemo & radiation finally over...CANCER FREE...and I have official "hair" again! as it slowly grows back.

What can I tell you about myself? I'm just a few months younger, than Adrian is. I just wish I could travel the world the way he does. LOL! I have lived in or around Colorado Springs, Colorado (USA) my whole life. I was raised on a horse and cattle ranch just north of the city. That's where I developed my love of animals. When my father retired from the ranching business and we moved to town.

I am collector many things, from Breyer Model Horses and Animals (which I’ve been collecting since I was 5-years-old), Moody Blues (the classic rock band) memorabilia, and the collector’s pins from Hard Rock Cafe’s and Planet Hollywood’s. I know that I'm leaving out some of my collections, but you get the idea.

I found Adrian Paul, like many of you . . . channel surfing one night and happened on the show Highlander. The first episode I stumbled on was, Mountain Men, since that night, I’ve been hooked. I've managed to go to three of the five Highlander conventions held in Denver, Colorado. Needless to say, that I was even more impressed by this man after meeting him, as I was before. Since the first convention experience, I've amassed a huge collection of Adrian's performances and I’ve done a book that summarizes his acting career.

I found many email groups, which I would join and then leave when I found they weren’t my cup of tea. I had heard of Adrian’s Angels and decided to try. To my surprise, I found a group of truly fantastic people. From the moment I joined, I was welcomed with open arms. I’ve been lucky to meet many of the Angel members. You all have not disappointed me; you have remained to be the wonderful, thoughtful and caring people that I had known you each to be.

Momma Angel Riley has welcomed me into her home on many occasions and has become a great friend!

Since joining Adrian’s Angels, you all have helped me deal with sicknesses, death’s and my father’s dementia. The Angels have always been there with their love and support. I can’t thank you all enough! You are all my guardian angels!

Peace and Love, to all!

Born in Michigan and raised in Indiana, I am a child of the midwest.

After ending my marriage of 12 yrs I moved to New Mexico with my son to find a better life. Good times and bad, we made it through and here I am....where I am supposed to be. This is the land of my heart. The Land of Enchantment.

My two granddaughters keep me busy and my heart just melts when I see them.  Mentally, I feel about 30, but in actual years, I'm mid-50's. Arrrgh!

I have collected a lot of things over my life, statues
of Pegasus, the winged horse; miniature houses and villages (Lilliput); Egyptian glass perfume bottles; and lots of other junk. LOL My one passion for collecting though is Shot Glasses. I have a collection now with over 200 glasses around the world. (Hint...I can always use more! LOL)

I turned my love of art into creating things with my hands and I've had an active craft business for about 12 yrs now. Whether it be painting fun animal rocks (Purr-fect Pets) or huge wall murals Ringo Design Decorative Painting.

I try to enjoy each project to it's fullest. I also design and create jewelry, which allows me to set up at local craft shows and display my art. Along with my son, we've created several award winning paintings which have been honored by the fine artists of New Mexico. He has grown into a well-known artist himself, but his efforts are on big rigs, cars and motorcycles. www.carsofabq.com

Disabled since 1998, I found that I could also share my love of art and graphics with others, and thus in 2000 began the Adrian's Angels web site and the E-group in late 1999. (you can read  the story of our beginnings at the bottom of this page)

Diagnosed with Triple negative invasive breast cancer in early 2008, I've spent the last year or so recovering from surgery, chemo and radiation. Over the past 10 years, from my 1st convention until now, I've met some of the most amazing, wonderful and incredible people...and made such dear friends. I've traveled to visit some, and they've traveled to visit me. While my family often wonders if I've lost my mind (I have!!) I have learned to do so many things I never thought possible.

Each day is a new adventure and I've found so many life-long friends. My joy, my Peace is Adrian's Angels and I thank Adrian Paul for being the man he is and for helping so many of us become the people we are.

Much peace!!

I am 40 years young and a single mother to Mandi living about 30 minutes outside of Chicago (well, the way I drive it's 30 minutes..VBEG). I became a fan of Highlander when the original movie came out and was very pleased when the television series debuted. I was instantly attracted to the man playing the lead role when I saw those long, tapered fingers and strong looking hands.
I have officially lost my Highlander Convention virginity, having attended my first one this past April (2009) in Los Angeles. I met so many wonderful people and had such a good time that I just can't wait to do it all again.

I finally got my first computer in about 2004 and within a few months found a group online called Adrian's Angels. I was fascinated by the fact that there seemed to be so many other people who were just as taken with Adrian Paul as I was. So naturally, I joined. Several months later, I became a moderator for the group and I could not have been happier. I love this group and it's members and the fact that even after so many years, we are still so like minded about the man.
I am an avid reader who will read just about anything. If I could, I would have my own library. I literally almost cry when I have to pass on a book to someone else who has the room for it since I have so many books and so little space to keep them all.

I am also a writer, having published my first book (one of those cheap, trashy, romance novels I am so addicted to reading) on Lulu.com. I don't have a lot of time to write these days, but do have a couple of books in the editing process before heading back over to Lulu for publishing. Our Momma Angel Riley also designed the cover of my first novel and I must say it is gorgeous.

Other interests that I have are crafting, history, and music. My music collection rivals my book collection. I am also the president of the Batavia Overseas VFW Post 1197 Ladies Auxiliary. This is my second year as their president and I am honored to be able do my part in making sure that our veterans have a place to call home when they return from their duties. I recently became certified in Food Service, and I do much of the cooking now for our post and their banquet hall. I also bartend for them occasionally. I make the best bartender since I don't drink up the profits.

I share my apartment with my daughter, my dog Kylee, our kitten Captain Jaqui Sparrow, and Ron our parakeet.

Well, here's a little about Carmen ..
I currently reside in the Philadelphia, PA area and have recently re-joined the staff at The Cave (can I just say here how much I LOVE my job...LOL).

I'm single with no children (my Sister has 5, so I borrow hers, spoil them and send them home. LOL!!  I enjoy reading, writing, all things AP/HL, sci-fi and horror. I am a Choco-holic... And did I mention how much I love my job?LOL!!! (check it out at www.menofthecave.com)

I came into the AP/HL fandom quite by accident and with the greatest thanks to my Mommy... I love sci-fi type shows/movies and of course was a huge fan of the original Highlander movie. At the time HL:TS hit the tv, I was into Friday the 13th: The Series and didn't even know about HL:TS (they came on at the same time...)... My Mom happened upon an episode of HL:TS one afternoon and recognized AP from Love Potion #9, and told me later that the "cute Italian guy in that movie with Sandra Bullock" was on a tv show about HL. I told her I would check it out, but didn't at first because of Friday... Then, the powers that be, devine intervention, or what ever you want to call it, happened and I got to check out HL:TS.. And I'm happy to say I haven't stopped watching yet...LOL!!!! The moment AP hit the screen, I knew I had a new favorite show.

I am a member in good standing of the Techno Turkeys...LOL!!!  I decided I would try to find more info on AP, so I jumped on AOL and did a search and found tons and tons of groups, chats, forums, etc and had really no clue what they were or how to join. I finally figured out some things and joined another AP related Yahoo group.

Leepeace was on that group too. I didn't post often and never really felt like "one of the crowd" so I just lurked and looked for pictures/info on AP and HL. Lee then invited me to join a new group called Adrian's Angels, and the rest is history. I went looking for fellow AP/HL fans and found a family...
It was, hands down, the best decision I ever made... Being part of AA has given me friends from around the world, helped me to stretch my imagination, taught me a few more things about pc's, and given me a sense of hope and peace... I've shared laughs and tears, Frus and links, joys and pains... And it has all been a blast.
Well, that's pretty much me in a nutshell...
Peace,
Carmen

Hello!

My name is Karen Houlton, I'm 54 years young, married to a wonderfully tolerant man for 33 years (he'll actually watch Highlander with me!), mother of 2 adult daughters, grandmother of one soon-to-be 15 year old and one grandchild to be born in the spring of 2010.

I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada (where Tracker was filmed), and I've had the privilege of attending 2 cons, one in L.A. in 2004 and one in Vancouver in 2007 where I got to actually meet and speak to Adrian........something I'll NEVER forget!

I love animals, like to crochet, collect and enjoy all sorts of music, love romance novels and vampire stories, and of course watch everything I can with Adrian Paul in it! :o)

Adrian's Angels has been my on-line home for around 9 years, and I love being here, and am honoured to be one of Riley's little trained minions...........oops!!!!!..........I mean Moderators! LOL

I hope to be able to meet as many Angels as I can. Anyone up for a trip north to Canada?? :o)

I am a proud Florida native and published author of the novels In the Dark and Half.

I also am a single mom of a fantastic son Tristan. We are both huge Adrian Paul fans.

I fell in love with Duncan MacLeod and began to learn more about Adrian and fell in love all over again. Adrian Paul has given my son a hero to look up to. We even took Tae Kwan Do and became green belts.

Adrian's Angels has been a part of my life since 2005. I have met many wonderful people and made a few very good friends. Best of all I've gotten lots of Adrian inspiration!

Contrary to popular belief,
we do not hold our Moderators hostage! Teee-heee!

(who, what, where, when & how)

Adrian's Angels began........
.....with me (Riley) flipping channels one late night in 1999 and I first found Adrian Paul and Highlander.
(When I was little, I adored Zorro and his sword-fighting and would terrorize the sheep on our small farm. Yes, I'm THAT old!!! LOL So when I saw Duncan MacLeod wielding that sword, my attention was captured.
My heart would soon follow as I watched the series and eagerly awaited each new epsiode. I became a fan...of Adrian and of all things Highlander.

I was new to computerland and had no idea where to go, or what to do, So, I began looking for information on Adrian Paul and was amazed. At that time there were over 1200 web sites dedicated to him!!!!

I saw on a message board that there were plans for a Convention (G5) in Denver and while skeptical, I thought it might be a nice way to spend a weekend. I bravely posted my first messages on a couple of lists  asking for information……and no answered me. :>(( I was so bummed. I thought I must have done something wrong, or not be "cool" enough to know all the insider language and codes. (This is one reason we make an effort to welcome newbies and make them feel comfortable. I remember that scared feeling.)

I posted once more and got 2 replies. One from ICRAD1965 (Darci) and one from LEEPEACE (Lee) who both invited me to join a Yahoo group called SAPS (The Send Amanda Packing Society.) They laughingly assured me that I didn't need to hate Amanda, so I gave it a try. Everyone seemed pretty nice and suddenly I was getting mail from new people and had someone else to talk to about Adrian. And I had someone to meet when I traveled to Denver!.

At G5 is where I first met Leepeace. A spry and lively 69 yr old woman, she was the ultimate Adrian fan!! I just adored her, she was so full of life and love for him.  The Con was an adventure and when I got back, I had the urge to try and get creative and make my own web page. My first attempts were such a failure! LOL

So I continued chatting online with my new found friends…..and then things changed for some reason in the following months. It seemed that tolerance became passe, and many of the lists and groups became places where if you were not in the "In" Group,  you were ignored,  verbally attacked, or ridiculed. There were so many newbies who did not know how to answer mail correctly, didn't understand the "inner" language of ROFL, TPTB, TAO, (click here and learn the language yourself) and this bothered me. Especially since I sure belonged in that newbie group too!

Leepeace was not a newbie to the lists, but had a hard time understanding her computer, how to make this happen, how to reply to an e-mail in a certain way, how to post correctly on each Message Board or list. She really tried, and many of us worked to make her understand. After much stress and duress, she became a pariah. From having hundreds of e-mail each day, she suddenly had none. She was ignored.......and so very hurt. I thought, "Give her a break, she's 69 yrs old!" and felt that a fan ought to count for more. She tried so hard to fit in.

So I said….I think I can start a group!!!!!

I looked into starting one on AOL and we did.  At first I had no idea if our little group would consist of anyone but Lee and myself. Then a few others joined us....and we had 7 people!!!! We chose a name, we started Adrian's Angels and I was so excited. LOL Believe it or not, all of those 7 brave Angels are still with us today…except for Leepeace. (She is with us in spirit though!!! )

A few more joined and a few more,  and we started having chats each week, but there were problems using AOL.  So, our little band of Angels moved to Yahoo in July of 2000. We grew slowly... by a member here.. a member there. From the very first I was determined that everyone would be treated equal, we'd be patient, we'd be kind and we'd be different and friendly. We treat each other with respect and decency. If someone needed help learning computing, we'd try to help...if someone needed some support with a problem, we'd flap our wings and help that way.

We ended up moving from Yahoo, to another server, than back again to Yahoo. I was amazed that just about every single Angel made the move with us. We lost our original Yahoo group site, so I had to resign us up. Thus began our official birthday, as AdriansAngels1, on Sept 24th, 2001.

In the end though, AA started because I felt that we each, as individuals, deserve respect from each other and most of all Peace in our lives. I hope that our attitude in AA shows that every day. Sadly, Lee passed away 12/16/02 and I miss my adopted "mother" so terribly much, but many of us feel her still with us. She was a force to reckon with! LOL

We now have over 500 Angels, friends around the world and I am so honored that each Angel is with us. Some leave for a while, some leave forever....some come back, new ones join ....."to everything there is a season."  I've come to believe that if a fan finds us, for whatever reason, then that is where they are supposed to be. Maybe for a few weeks, maybe for a few years…but while they are with us, I hope that we give them all the love, patience and peace they deserve.

Thank you all for supporting Adrian's Angels, and for helping me make it what it is today.

Peace!!
Riley
